A Message from IHRA President Mike Dunn

To: All IHRA Stakeholders - our Racing Family!

As many of you are aware, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a regulation to prohibit the conversion of vehicles originally designed for on-road use into racecars.

The proposed regulation would be detrimental to motorsports, particularly the drag racing industry and the IHRA. It would impact all vehicle types commonly converted for use at a racetrack. The regulation would also make the sale of certain products for use on such vehicles illegal.

The proposed regulation was contained within a non-related proposed regulation entitled "Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Fuel Efficiency Standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty Engines and Vehicles-Phase 2." The EPA failed to provide adequate public notice that the racecar provision was included. There were no public comments on the racecar provision until SEMA discovered it and then submitted comments on Dec. 28, 2015, after the formal comment period had ended.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate have introduced legislation (HR 4715 and S.2659) that will clarify that under the Clean Air Act, it has always been legal to modify a street vehicle into a race car.
Please urge your legislators to pass the RPM Act, which clarifies that it has always been legal to modify a street vehicle into a racecar used exclusively at the track. We need all of our IHRA racers to rally together right now and help save the sport we all love.

Click here to contact your Legislator and the IHRA thanks you for your support.

Sincerely,

Mike Dunn
IHRA President
